SUMMARY:
This is a professional level position assigned to the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Family Division, Juvenile Section.  The Probation Officer is responsible for carrying out the mandates of the “Juvenile Act” contained in the Judicial Code (Title 42-Chapter 63) and the Rules of Juvenile Court procedure relating to the care, guidance, control, trial, placement and commitment of delinquent children. This individual’s responsibilities include conducting investigations, completing reports and making recommendations to the court, reviewing and examining complaints and charges of delinquency or dependency for the purpose of considering the commencement of proceedings under the Act. This individual must know, understand and implement the Balanced and Restorative Justice philosophy (BARJ) by routinely engaging assigned caseload in BARJ activities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work preferably in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field with a background of at least 18 credits in the behavioral or social sciences and possess a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree with major course work preferably in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field with a background of at least 18 credits in the behavioral or social sciences and possess one (1) year of relevant work experience. 
  • Knowledge of the “Juvenile Act” and the juvenile justice system, knowledge of the social factors and causes of social maladjustment of juveniles and adults, knowledge of current social economic, legal and health problems and recourses, knowledge of individual and group behavior.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, ability to problem solve, work independently and demonstrate solid counseling skills.
  • Ability to deal with stress associated with position/environment.
  • Act 33/34 Clearance, FBI Criminal Record Clearance, and Pennsylvania Driver’s License/Insurance.
  • Work non-traditional hours and be on call 24 hours a day.

  • Supervise and assist juveniles placed on probation or in protective supervision or care by order of the Court or other authority of law.

SUMMARY:
This position is assigned to the Community Intensive Supervision Program (CISP) of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Family Division, Juvenile Section.  The Community Monitor assumes an important role within the Community Intensive Supervision Program, serving as role model for responsible behavior and personal integrity.  This position is responsible for the direct supervision and control of juvenile males committed to the program as an alternative to institutionalization.  Monitors work directly with Probation Officers/Case Managers and juveniles, implementing the case plans of case managers, reporting progress and recommending progression through program levels.  This individual is expected to work both independently and as part of a team effort within the responsibilities of the position, generally following routine procedures that are regularly reviewed by the Center supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education level of high school degree or equivalent or experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Ability to establish and facilitate strong, clear communication boundaries with male juveniles. 
  • Ability to arbitrate issues, resolve issues and persuade youth toward socially acceptable actions. 
  • Ability to exercise authority with non-complainant male juveniles, including physical control of disruptive juveniles. 
  • Ability to work varying shifts, Monday-Friday 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm, Sat & Sunday 1-9 pm; although training or special activities can deviate from these times.
  • Ability to deal with stress associated with position/environment.
  • Act 33/34 Clearance, FBI Criminal Record Clearance, and Pennsylvania Driver’s License/Insurance.
  • Ability to drive a 10 passenger van.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Meet with assigned youth daily to discuss behavior, school, family, job, attitudes, authority, social skills and goal-setting.
  • Maintain daily contact with juvenile’s school, work site, support services, home and, parents/guardians. 
  • Ensure appropriate behavior of juvenile inside/outside center on community service projects, field trips, recreations, etc. 
  • Use various techniques to confront, guide and support youth, as well as, oversee random drug test procedures.
  • Perform individual/group counseling sessions and oversee random drug tests.

SUMMARY:
This is a professional level position assigned to the Fifth Judicial District of Pennsylvania, Criminal Division, Pretrial Services. The Bail Investigator’s primary responsibilities will be completing bail investigations, making recommendations to the Court, working both in the Allegheny County Jail and the Pretrial main office, and all duties related to bail modifications, revocations, supervision and failure to appear warrants.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

*  Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a Criminal Justice or Social Services field.
*  Master’s degree in a related field is beneficial, but not required
*  Knowledge of PA criminal justice system, and knowledge of the policies and practices of the Pretrial Services Department is preferable

SUMMARY:

This is clerical position in the Magisterial District Court System of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas 5th Judicial District.   Employee is staff of Administrative Office assigned to District Courts. Responsibilities include performing general secretarial, clerical, data entry, routine reporting, and bookkeeping duties for a Magisterial District Court.  There is extensive public contact. Assignments generally follow routine procedures, although the Magisterial District Court Judge, Secretary or Court Administration may give specific directions. Assignments may or may not be reviewed upon completion. Work involves some initiative and independent judgment and is carried out under supervision by the Magisterial District Judge, Secretary, and Court Administration in accordance with established policies and procedures.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

*  Knowledge of social services, drug and alcohol counseling, and mental health counseling techniques. Knowledge of probation and parole work. Knowledge of the appropriate laws and rules of procedure, the ability to gather and research information, and prepare formal reports for the court.
*  Effective written and verbal communication, ability to problem solve, work independently, conduct interviews in a professional manner, and the ability to handle sensitive materials with discretion.

SUMMARY:
The Fifth Judicial District of Pennsylvania, Family Division, is seeking qualified professionals to join the Custody Mediator Roster. Mediators serve as neutral and impartial facilitators, assisting parties in resolving custody disputes through structured, confidential mediation conducted via Microsoft Teams.

This role requires a strong commitment to neutrality, the ability to conduct non-biased mediation, and the professionalism needed to guide high-conflict conversations objectively and respectfully. Mediators must operate within established court procedures and demonstrate sound understanding of custody processes to ensure accurate documentation and smooth case flow throughout the judicial system.

This is not employment and not a contractual engagement. Mediators accept scheduled assignments and invoice the Court monthly for services rendered.

All mediations are conducted remotely via Microsoft Teams and Mediators provide their own computer equipment and private workspace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
*  Conduct custody mediation sessions as a neutral, impartial third party, ensuring each participant has a fair and balanced opportunity to be heard.
*  Facilitate discussions without bias, personal influence, or advocacy, maintaining a non-directive and objective approach.
*  Apply working knowledge of custody procedures, case pathways, and post-mediation processes to ensure accurate documentation and appropriate case handling.
*  Review custody filings and case information through DCR and Generations, including identifying Domestic Violence waivers, reviewing case history, and understanding the procedural status of each case.
*  Maintain a consistent weekly schedule; commitment of at least one full day weekly (9:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM sessions).
*  Uphold strict confidentiality and always maintain professional boundaries.
*  Conduct all sessions from a private, confidential workspace and maintain reliable technology for virtual mediation.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
*  Bachelor’s degree and practical experience in law, psychology, counseling, family therapy, conflict resolution, or a related field.
*  Demonstrated ability to conduct neutral, unbiased mediation in accordance with professional ethical standards.
*  Familiarity with child-custody processes, court procedures, and related terminology, or the ability to quickly learn and apply this knowledge effectively.
*  Successful completion of: 40 hours of approved divorce/custody mediation training and 10 hours of domestic-violence or child-abuse training.
*   Proof of mediation professional liability insurance.
*  Completion of 4 supervised mediations totaling at least 10 hours under a qualified mediator.
*   Commitment to 10 hours of continuing education annually in family mediation.
*  Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to remain calm, neutral, and objective in high-conflict environments.
*  Ability to navigate and interpret custody case information using Department of Court Records (DCR) and Generations systems.
*  High proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, and OneDrive, and comfort conducting professional virtual sessions.
*  Ability to work independently, meet strict deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume, procedural environment.
*  Proven ability to maintain neutrality, fairness, and non-biased facilitation in emotionally charged or adversarial settings.
*  Strong understanding of child-custody terminology, court processes and procedural requirements, or the ability to learn and apply this knowledge.
*  Ability to work within established custody workflows, including understanding how mediation outcomes affect subsequent hearings or scheduling steps.
*  Exceptional conflict-resolution skills with the ability to manage highly emotional situations calmly and professionally.
