SUMMARY:
This is a professional level position assigned to the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Family Division, Juvenile Section.  The Probation Officer is responsible for carrying out the mandates of the “Juvenile Act” contained in the Judicial Code (Title 42-Chapter 63) and the Rules of Juvenile Court procedure relating to the care, guidance, control, trial, placement and commitment of delinquent children. This individual’s responsibilities include conducting investigations, completing reports and making recommendations to the court, reviewing and examining complaints and charges of delinquency or dependency for the purpose of considering the commencement of proceedings under the Act. This individual must know, understand and implement the Balanced and Restorative Justice philosophy (BARJ) by routinely engaging assigned caseload in BARJ activities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work preferably in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field with a background of at least 18 credits in the behavioral or social sciences and possess a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree with major course work preferably in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field with a background of at least 18 credits in the behavioral or social sciences and possess one (1) year of relevant work experience. 
  • Knowledge of the “Juvenile Act” and the juvenile justice system, knowledge of the social factors and causes of social maladjustment of juveniles and adults, knowledge of current social economic, legal and health problems and recourses, knowledge of individual and group behavior.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, ability to problem solve, work independently and demonstrate solid counseling skills.
  • Ability to deal with stress associated with position/environment.
  • Act 33/34 Clearance, FBI Criminal Record Clearance, and Pennsylvania Driver’s License/Insurance.
  • Work non-traditional hours and be on call 24 hours a day.

  • Supervise and assist juveniles placed on probation or in protective supervision or care by order of the Court or other authority of law.

SUMMARY:
This position is assigned to the Community Intensive Supervision Program (CISP) of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Family Division, Juvenile Section.  The Community Monitor assumes an important role within the Community Intensive Supervision Program, serving as role model for responsible behavior and personal integrity.  This position is responsible for the direct supervision and control of juvenile males committed to the program as an alternative to institutionalization.  Monitors work directly with Probation Officers/Case Managers and juveniles, implementing the case plans of case managers, reporting progress and recommending progression through program levels.  This individual is expected to work both independently and as part of a team effort within the responsibilities of the position, generally following routine procedures that are regularly reviewed by the Center supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education level of high school degree or equivalent or experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Ability to establish and facilitate strong, clear communication boundaries with male juveniles. 
  • Ability to arbitrate issues, resolve issues and persuade youth toward socially acceptable actions. 
  • Ability to exercise authority with non-complainant male juveniles, including physical control of disruptive juveniles. 
  • Ability to work varying shifts, Monday-Friday 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm, Sat & Sunday 1-9 pm; although training or special activities can deviate from these times.
  • Ability to deal with stress associated with position/environment.
  • Act 33/34 Clearance, FBI Criminal Record Clearance, and Pennsylvania Driver’s License/Insurance.
  • Ability to drive a 10 passenger van.

  • Use various techniques to confront, guide and support youth, as well as, oversee random drug test procedures.

SUMMARY:
This is a professional level position assigned to the Fifth Judicial District of Pennsylvania, Criminal Division, Pretrial Services. The Bail Investigator’s primary responsibilities will be completing bail investigations, making recommendations to the Court, working both in the Allegheny County Jail and the Pretrial main office, and all duties related to bail modifications, revocations, supervision and failure to appear warrants.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

*  Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a Criminal Justice or Social Services field.
*  Master’s degree in a related field is beneficial, but not required
*  Knowledge of PA criminal justice system, and knowledge of the policies and practices of the Pretrial Services Department is preferable

SUMMARY:

Arraignment Court is the first judicial step for a person arrested on criminal charges.  At Arraignment, the defendant is formally advised of the charges filed, bond is set, counsel is discussed, and the preliminary hearing date is set.  The Arraignment Clerk prepares all necessary paperwork and provides copies to the defendant.

This is a clerical position that requires keyboarding and some familiarity with computer data entry.  This includes entering criminal complaints into a statewide computer system for Magisterial District Judges.  This position also handles the acceptance of bail in criminal and family division cases. Knowledge of basic office equipment is necessary.  Work involves routine procedures although some independent judgment is necessary. Applicants need an ability to work and communicate directly with Magisterial District Judges, Pre-trial Service Employees, Police, Employees of the County Jail, Department of Court Records, County Identification, co-workers, and the public.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

* Highschool diploma or equivalent.

* Ability to keyboard 35 words per minute with accuracy.

* Knowledge of personal computer and general office equipment.

* Ability to interact and communicate appropriately with court officials, the public, and various criminal justice practitioners.

* Ability to learn how to use the MDJS computer system and other systems available to assist the operation of Arraignment Court.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Data entry of police criminal complaints into the Magisterial District Judge System (MDJS).

*  Facilitate video arraignment process (operating video equipment, disseminate appropriate paperwork).

*  May sit on the bench with the judge to facilitate the processing of paperwork attendant to

   arraignments, weddings, Protection from Abuse orders, bail and other work performed by the Court.

*  Receipt and record moneys for bail and collateral; balance bail receipts.

*  Prepare Emergency Protection from Abuse orders for Magisterial District Judge once a PFA has been

    granted and disseminate to appropriate agencies.

*  Copy criminal complaints and affidavits for police and Magisterial District Justice Courts.

*  Answer questions from the public and various criminal justice practitioners about the status of

    arraignments.

*  Complete routine paperwork on each case entering Arraignment Court.

*  Performs such other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
